Shaun Sanders Sr Obituary

Shaun Sanders Sr. gained his wings Sunday, March 29, 2020. He was born on Friday, November 28, 1975 in Chesapeake, Virginia to Arthur Sanders Sr. and Willie Mae Sanders.

Growing up in the South Norfolk and Georgetown sections of Chesapeake, Shaun earned the nickname “Rock”. Growing up he was a true athlete; playing football, baseball and basketball. He would tell me that his first love was baseball, but he chose football in high school.

Shaun graduated from Indian River High School in 1993. Shaun was a proud Indian River Brave. He would tell you quick, “I’m a Frye Baby”. Shaun made lifetime friends everywhere he went. He was so genuine, loyal and caring. Once you became his friend, you had a buddy for life. Shaun became a mason on March 29, 2012. He was an active member for many years of The Masonic Lodge of Judah #7 out of Portsmouth, Virginia.

Shaun is predeceased by his mother Willie Mae Sanders. His mom was where he learned how to love. When I saw how he felt about his mom, I knew he was a gentleman.

To continue the assignment that Shaun Sr. began, he leaves behind a wife June Sanders; his daughter Iyanna and son Lil Shaun; his father Arthur Sanders Sr.; stepmom Elaine Sanders; 2 brothers Arthur Jr. and Stacey; a sister Tameka Davis; 4 nieces, 1 nephew and 3 stepbrothers. There are also hundreds of friends that Shaun has made who are all grieving his loss as well.

The family wishes to thank friends, co-workers, both current and former, Kempsville High School staff and everyone who is praying for us and continually checking on us. Please continue to keep us in your prayers and keep loving on us. Shaun’s death is a huge loss that we will never get over but we have to get through.

Because of the citywide restrictions on public gathering, the funeral service will be private for the immediate family but a viewing will be made available on Friday at the funeral home from 4-7pm.  To be in compliance with any laws and/or restrictions we will set up as a drive through so that all of his friends and other relatives can pay their respect one car at a time.

In lieu of flowers, cards and any expressions of love to the family, can be dropped at the funeral home when you view on Friday from 4-7pm.

Live streaming of his service can be accessed through our facebook page starting at 12 noon . Fitchett Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
