On February 6, 2021, our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, Mother Smith was called home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was affectionately known as Ma-Nettie and was born on April 1, 1933 to the late Billie Roy Ridley. She and her 2 siblings were raised by her father. She was predeceased in death by two brothers Samuel Ridley (Mary Lizzie Ridley) and William Ridley (Teene Ridley).
Ma-Nettie was born and raised in Southampton County Virginia. She was very loving, very quiet, very soft spoken and the baby girl of her 3 siblings. She attended the Southampton County Public School System. As she became a young lady she met the love of her life and married the late Reuben Smith and to their union was born 5 children. She was a nurturing and loving mother to her children and a devoted wife to her husband.
Ma-Nettie loved the Lord with all her heart and soul. She gave her life to God and on October 5, 1996, she became a faithful member of Trueway Evangelistic Mission Church under the leadership of the late pastor and founder Elder Wilmure Burden. Ma Smith loved the Lord and she loved her church family. She was a faithful member of The Women's Department, Mother's Board and a very faithful Sunday School Member. She rarely missed a Tuesday night Bible Study Class or Sunday morning Sunday School Class. Ma-Nettie served Trueway with her presence and with her finances. She will truly be missed!
Some of her favorite past times were cooking, spending time with her family, making cornbread and eating fried chicken. Ma-Nettie's favorite scripture was John 14:1-3, she knew Jesus Christ had prepared a place for her.
