Mr. Herbert Earl Rogers, son of the late Stephen and Ina Grady Rogers, was born on November 30, 1932 in Lenoir County, North Carolina.
He received his education from the Lenoir County Public School System. He left Lenoir County and moved to Kinston, NC, where he grew up. He left Kinston in 1965 and moved to Suffolk, Virginia where he started his carpentry business in 1965 up until July 12, 2009. He enjoyed building houses and drawing his own blueprints. He was manager and owner of Rogers Carpentry business for 44 years.
While in Virginia he met and married Linda Rhea Morgan on October 20, 1978. From their union came 5 children and 1 stepson. Herbert accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior on November 12, 2013 under the leadership of Minister Monica Kelly. After accepting Jesus Christ, he attended Living Faith Outreach Center until his death.
Herbert was preceded in death by four sisters; Mildred Taylor, Annie Fields, Margaret Marie Edwards and Louise Rogers; two brothers Mark Rogers and Fonnie Rogers.
He leaves to cherish the sweet memories of his life, his wife Linda Rogers; six children Byron Griffin of Melbourne, Florida; Cyvonia Morgan (Portmouth); Chiquitha Rogers (Portsmouth); Towanda (Curtis) of Norfolk; Jermaine Rogers (Portsmouth) and Cornelius Rogers (Yorktown); one sister Ms. Janice Rogers (San Diego, CA); 19 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren. A host of sister in laws, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
