Gwendolyn Kay Rush was born November 19, 1955 to Johnnie and Marion Rush in Norfolk, Virginia. She departed this life on May 11, 2018 at her home in Chesapeake, Virginia.
She received her education at Norfolk Public Schools graduating from Lake Taylor High School in 1974. She worked in the nursing field until she retired in 2002. She still continued to nurture and encourage everyone she came in contact with. Her love for others was infectious and she had a way of drawing people to her.
Gwen was predeceased by her parents and her brother Marvin (Buddy). She leaves to mourn, her devoted and loving younger sister Jan Rush who was also her caregiver; her older
sister Ruby Gaines (Howard Sr.); a devoted nephew Dr. Howard Gaines, Jr.; cousins and a host of nieces and nephews.
Gwen also leaves to mourn special friends Chariety Brown, Ellen Wilson, Rev Linda Elliott and Rev Joyce Nyhaug. She is also mourned by a devoted staff of nurses and doctors who provided her care and comfort during her illness.
The family will be receiving friends for Gwendolyns visitation at Fitchett Funeral Home on Thursday, May 17 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
Her homegoing celebration will take place at First Baptist Church South Hill, 3633 Galberry Rd Chesapeake, VA on Friday, May 18 at 11:00 am.
While the family is thankful to each and everyone for all acts of kindness and love in this hour, they do also appreciate your respect of their privacy during this time.
