Dorothy Colleen Washington entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. She was born on October 16, 1927 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Harvey and Clementine Small Edmonds. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Vivian E. Hofler, her sons Dennis Washington and Larry Washington and nephews Willard C. Stewart Jr. and Carlton W. Hofler III.
Colleen attended Norfolk Public Schools and school in New Bern, NC, where she graduated. She studied at Norfolk State College.
At an early age, Colleen worshipped at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Norfolk, VA. She remained a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she served on the Missionary Society and The Female Usher Boards. Colleen delivered medicine for Dr. Webb’s Pharmacy for many years while working as a teacher’s aide in the Norfolk Public School System. She was a seamstress at Sears and Roebuck Company on 21st St. in Norfolk, VA.
Left to cherish her memories are her brother Willard C. Stewart Sr. (Shirley) of Chesapeake, VA; two children Constance Whitaker of VA Beach and Michael Washington of Norfolk, VA; two grandchildren: Antoine Washington (Shaquita) of South Mills, NC and Terrell Washington of Portsmouth, VA; three nieces Charlene M. V. Hofler (devoted) and Gwendolyn L. Wallen of Petersburg, VA and Renee’ Stewart of Chesapeake, VA and one nephew Edward E. Hofler of Petersburg, VA; four great grand children, six great nieces, three great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Viewing for Ms. Colleen is public and will take place on Friday at the funeral home from 4pm-6pm.
