Darlene Dowell Obituary

 

Mrs. Darlene Salmond Dowell was born in Paterson, New Jersey on June 20, 1963 to the late Johnny Salmond Sr. and survived by Maggie Lou Salmond. She was supported by her loving husband James A. Dowell, her sons Quinton X. Dowell, Davon N. Green, and her daughter LaQuesha S. Dowell-Briscoe.

Darlene Dowell attended Paterson Public Schools and graduated from East Side High school of Paterson, New Jersey. She continued her education at Passaic County Community College where she received her Associates Degree in business. She was also a faithful member of Second Baptist Church of Paterson, New Jersey.

In 1995, she relocated to Norfolk, VA and was employed by Bank of America where she served dutifully for 13 years. Unfortunately, she was forced to retire due to her Sickle Cell Disease. She met the love of her life James Dowell in 1998 and later married on August 11,2001 in Norfolk, VA. She was a member and attended First Baptist Church of South Hill of Chesapeake, VA.

In her leisure time, she volunteered at Southwestern Elementary School, where she received the Volunteer of the Year award and the Southern District Volunteer for Chesapeake Public Schools award from the PTA. She was the member of the Order of Eastern Star Thomas Wheeden First District Norfolk Virginia Chapter. She was also a member of the National Association of Professional Women.

Darlene also had many business ventures. She started Party With Us, LLC where she assisted in making many event dreams come to reality for people all across the East Coast. She was a crafty, an awesome designer, and simply a jack of all trades.

Darlene Dowell was a Sickle Cell Warrior. She was a member and a part of the Sickle Cell Foundation. Darlene held numerous Sickle Cell events to help raise funds to find a cure and bring awareness to the cause. She and everyone she knew attended a Sickle Cell Walk every year.                                

Darlene Dowell leaves to cherish her memory of her husband James A. Dowell;  two sons:  Quinton X. Dowell of Chesapeake, VA, Davon N. Green of Augusta, GA; one daughter: LaQuesha S. Dowell-Briscoe of Chesapeake, VA; bonus son: Cameron A. Briscoe of Chesapeake, VA; bonus daughter: Desiree T. Hicks of Virginia Beach, VA; three brothers:  Johnny Salmond Jr. of Union City, GA, Troy Salmond (Marney Robinson Salmond) of Jonesboro, GA, Brae M. Salmond, of Indianapolis, IN; three sisters:   Pamela J. Salmond (deceased), Hope Salmond (deceased),  Briell E. Salmond of Stockbridge, GA,  sister in laws: Pamela D. Johnson, of Montgomery, AL; Sandra R. Johnson (Duane Johnson) of Montgomery AL, Jacqueline Dorsey-Motley of Newport News, VA;  Darlene also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Viewing will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 2 from 5-7pm at Fitchett Funeral Home Chapel located 1821 Liberty Street. Funeral services will be held on Thursday Jan, 3, 11:00 am at First Baptist Church Southhill.  Please keep the Dowell family in your prayers.
