Stacy Sanders Obituary

Stacy Byron Sanders passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 14th.

Stacy is predeceased by his beloved mother Willie Mae Sanders, brother Shaun Sanders and Uncle John Sanders Jr.

Stacy was born October 29, 1966 to Arthur and Willie Mae Sanders. He was raised in The South Norfolk area of Chesapeake. Stacy was well-known in the communities of Broad lawn, Cascade, Sunrise Hill and Georgetown. One thing for sure is that Stacy was always proud of where he was from.

Stacy was a graduate of Indian River High School. He accomplished and received an abundance of accolades for his achievements in basketball and football.  Til this day, he still holds the record for the most interceptions in football. He was a 3 time All-State, 4 time Southeastern District, and 4 time All-Tidewater.

Even while accomplishing so much, he still had time to meet the love of his life, Valerie and they are still together for 38 yrs!

Stacy went on to College at  Hampton University for 4 years where he achieved more awards including but not limited to leading the nation and CIAA with 11 interceptions in a season in 1988. Also, he even had a try-out with the San Francisco 49ers.

Over the years Stacy worked hard regardless of the days or hours. He was employed at Reynolds Landscapes where he worked for a few years. Prior to that he was employed at Chesapeake Lawnscapes for many years.

Stacy was a devoted father to his girls, he often referred to them as “ HIS QUEENS”. Like their father, they followed in his footsteps and played basketball as well. Stacy never missed any basketball games or any important moments in their lives. One thing about Stacy is that he was always bragging bout his girls. He loved them so much he would call them daily just to say I love you or good morning. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends and family.

Stacy enjoyed watching football. His team was San Francisco 49ers. One of his favorite shows to watch was Walker Texas Ranger. You could also find him with his grand kids at football and basketball games yelling, “let it fly!”  He often spoke positive words to them and many others. He greatly admired his father Arthur Sr. and would often speak very highly of him.

Stacy leaves behind  to cherish his many memories, his father Arthur Sanders Sr. step mother Elaine Sanders; his life partner (fiancee') Valerie Dickens; daughters Shawnte' Dickens (Steven), Brittany Dickens (Mike) and Alexis Austin (Chris); brother Arthur Sanders Jr; sister Tameka Davis and sister in law June Sanders; 3 grandchildren, Nicole (fam fam), Christian (waterhead jr.) and 5 day old grandson Jayce, Nieces Iyanna and Amiyah, Nephews Lil Shaun and Michael, stepbrothers Ricky Church , Shawn Church , and Anthony Church, a host of cousins but shared a special bond with Marco Armstrong and Sharnette Sanders. He has a ton of family and friends that loved him dearly!
