"If I can help somebody along the way then my living shall not be in vain."
On Monday, 13 September 2021 our beloved Raymond Lee Spence of Chesapeake, VA completed his earthly assignment and was promoted to do work in the heavenly realm. Raymond was born on 21 March 1954 to the Late William C. Spence and Goldie Lewis in Norfolk County now called Chesapeake, VA..
Raymond was affectionately called "Red Cap" and was reared in the Fentress Section of Chesapeake along with his siblings and other family members. He walked the neighbor paths and streets to check on those in the community and would lend a helping hand for whatever they needed to be done. "Red Cap" truly cared about his Fentress Community and residents!
Raymond received his education in Chesapeake Public Schools and attended Crestwood High School. He worked in Refuse Collection for the City of Virginia Beach for 18 years and performed odd and end jobs thereafter.
Raymond attended his family church, Centerville Chapel A.M.E. Church in Fentress. He had a love for gospel music.
Raymond leaves to cherish his legacy and memory: his loving mother; Goldie Lewis of Chesapeake, VA; his son, Marquis Belcher of Norfolk. VA; his grandchildren, Saqwone Gray, Zamira Gray, Markisha Williams, O'Shea Belcher, and Zamira Williams; his brothers, Bobby Spence (Cynthia), Larry Spence, Larry Lucas, and Danny Lucas of Chesapeake, VA; his sisters, Joanne Blount (Arnicholeas), Darlene Privott, and Theresa Lewis of Chesapeake, VA, Annette Roberts (Cardel) of Suffolk, VA, Angela Stockdale (Lamar) of Norfolk, VA and Elaine Lucas of Seattle, WA; his aunts, Constance Lewis and Annie Mae Lewis of Chesapeake, VA; his uncles, Joseph Lewis Sr of Chesapeake, VA and James Riddick of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that dearly loved him.
