After a long, unprecedented battle with Covid, Dr. Regina Belinda Smart(Peachez/Punkin) sadly passed away on the fifth day of January, 2022 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. She was born on November 22, 1970 in Roosevelt, New York to the late Wilbur D. Smart Sr. and the late Flora M. Hollins Smart. She lived the majority of her life in Boston, Massachusetts and resided the last few years of her life in Chesapeake, Virginia.
The second born of six children, she was a graduate of Boston Latin Academy (1989), as well as Fisher College (1992). There she remained on the Dean’s list with a 4.0 GPA; while also fulfilling her role as President of Phi Theta Kappa. Not too soon after graduating High School (one of the top exam schools in Boston), she gave birth to her first of her five children; Cheré. With Ericka, Regina, Chakai and Chaka following, all whom she raised single handedly. She also studied at Capella University and Walden University and she graduated in Human Services and Health with her Masters Degree. Regina could always be heard saying she had “Five on it” when referring to her daughters. They were her world and she loved them all dearly “No limit.” She was brilliant, compassionate, loving, caring, and beautiful, both inside and out.
Regina is survived by her five beautiful daughters; Cheré (Malcolm) Dunham, Ericka Britt, Regina Britt, Chakai Clouden, Chaka Clouden. Her two grandsons Nazir Dunham, Xion Wright. Her significant other; Rodney McBride Jr. Her five siblings; Wilbur D. (Charlynne) Smart Jr., Janae Smart, Donald Pearson-Smart, Alice Smart, Martel Smart. Her five nieces, her three nephews, her two godsons and her great nephew.
Regina touched many lives with her generosity and passion for life and will be remembered for her unconditional love, spunk and unique sense of humor. She was truly one of a kind. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
No funeral or viewing is planned but a Memorial Service, honoring her life will be held at Fitchett Funeral Home, 1821 Liberty St., on Wednesday, January 19th at 11 am.
