Alton M. Harrell was born in Hertford County, NC to the late Lillie Mae Barnes and Hardy-Lee Marsh on December 18, 1946. He departed this life on Thursday July 16, 2020 at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Elder Alton Harrell was an active member of Mill Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Aulander, NC during the time that he lived there. He accepted his call to Ministry at Mill Branch Missionary Baptist Church. By God’s grace and sovereign leadership, Minister Alton Harrell was ordained to the position of Elder by the late Bishop Aaron Griffin in 1995 at Solid Rock Pentecostal Holy Mount Christian Church located in Norfolk, VA. Elder Harrell served faithfully beside his wife Pastor Mary Harrell as Assistant Pastor for 25 years.
Elder Harrell enjoyed traveling the country as a Class A CDL driver, as well as becoming one of Hampton Road’s premier carpet cleaning technicians. He owned A & H Carpet Care cleaning services for 26 years. Being a productive entrepreneur, he also owned Harrell’s Janitorial services and Harrell’s Vacuum Cleaner Repair services. Elder Alton Harrell also mastered his own heating element system that changed the workability of the carpet cleaning industry.
Elder Harrell was preceded by his late mother Lillie Mae Harrell Barnes, late father Hardy Lee Marsh and late stepfather Allen James Barnes.
He leaves to cherish his memories: wife Pastor Mary Harrell, daughter Sandra J. Harrell, daughter Pamela C. Miller (Ricardo), son Ronnie Harrell, son Wayne Harrell, son Alexander West, son James West (Latasha), sister Virginia Mitchell (Dennis), sister Janet Barkley (Charles), brother Wilson Harrell (Dorothy), brother Milton Harrell, brother Milton Barnes (Tammy), sister Dianne Basnight, sister Brenda Cherry (James), brother Kennedy Barnes (Dorothy), brother Randy Barnes, brother David G. Marsh (Tina), brother Stephan M. Marsh (Angel) brother John A, Marsh II, sister Heather A. Logan, Aunt Jannie Lee Leary and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Elder Harrel loved to laugh and had an outgoing personality. He also loved to frequently visit IHOP and Shoney’s restaurants. When he entered these establishments, they treated him like family. He will be missed but never forgotten by his family and friends.
Per the family's request, VIEWING WILL BE THE DAY OF FUNERAL SERVICES, Friday JULY 24 FROM 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM at the church, Bethlehem Missionary Baptist, 1502 Link St. Norfolk, Virginia.
