Raymond Nevada Sawyer

Raymond Nevada Sawyer known as "Big Rain" departed earthly life on Saturday, October 27, 2018. Raymond was born on January 26, 1931 in Norfolk, Virginia, one of
eight children to the late James and Alleen Vaughan.

He attended Norfolk Public Schools in his early years. He started early employment at Lee Memorial Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia and continued on to be employed by Virginia National Bank where he worked for over 35years.There he became a Supervisor of the transportation department where he implemented new ways of transporting mail to save time and money for the company. He later moved on to Velocity Express. He also received several awards and commendations. In his leisure time he enjoyed playing pool and stringing his guitar. His grandkids were of great pleasure and he enjoyed spending time with them. Among his favorite things to do was the summer cookouts with family and friends where he played "Chef PaPa". He truly loved his family.

Raymond leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Patricia Edmonds Sawyer, Chesapeake, Va. His children: Gregory Sawyer, Norfolk, Va. Debora Kane, Virginia Beach, Va. Jocelyn Dora, Houston, Texas. Linda Sawyer(deceased). Grandkids: Nicholas Kane, Christian Sawyer, Sidney Sawyer, Jordan Sawyer and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Alleen Vaughan, father James Vaughan. Sisters Christine Sawyer, Iris Sawyer, Willie Beale, Alton Sawyer, James Vaughan. C. Sawyer.
 

Raymond's body will lie in state on Friday from 5pm - 7pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11am, New Rising Sun Baptist, 201 Patrick St Norfolk.
