Brother Nathaniel King, Jr answered his final call by his master from labour to His reward.

Nathaniel King Jr, age 65, passed peacefully on November 14, 2017 at his home in Smithfield, VA after a long battle with cancer.

Nathaniel King was born on June 10, 1952 to the late Nathaniel King, Sr. and Margaret Eleazor. He is a graduate of Phillips High School in Battleboro, NC. Nathaniel is survived by his wife of 28 years Tamie King, five children; Kendric King, Melarie King, Alexis King, Natalie (Alexis) Rice, and DeMarcus King.

He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 6 godchildren, and 3 daughters and a son that he helped raise; Sheree Alford, Chiffon Alford, Zena Alford, and Levern Alford, all of Richmond, Va. Eight siblings; Cynthia (William) Mosley, Michelle King, Valerie Graham, Eliza Thompson, Clifford (Thomasine) King, Larry (Arletta) King, Gregory (Jackie) King, and Karl (Raylonda) King; Four aunts and one uncle; Annie (Buck) Johnson of Richmond, VA and Lucy Footman of Philadelphia, PA, Ruth King and Lizzie King of Rocky Mount, NC .

Nathaniel also leaves his nieces, nephews and two cherished friends Shelby Hampton and William (Bubba) Crump; his in-laws; David (Teresa) Carrington, Edward (Roxanne) Fulmore, Dean (Diane) Holmes, Frankie (Lodina) Britton, Frederick Britton, John Britton, Helen Allen and Peggy Britton.

Nathaniel also leaves behind a host of cousins, friends, and co-workers that he loved dearly.

Nathaniel enlisted in the military during the Vietnam War, where he earned several medals and accommodations for his selfless service. After serving ten years in the military Nathaniel decided to make his way home to Richmond, VA and start the next chapter of his life. He worked for Virginia Tractor, Swift Transportation and Brown Trucking Company where he ended his career.

After retirement Nathaniel decided to spend his final years in Hampton Roads where he could walk along the beach, lend his talents to HUD housing, build homes for the homeless and spends time with his grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Compassionate Care in Virginia Beach and their staff that cared for Nathaniel in his final days.

There will be a viewing on Saturday, November 18 from 12 noon - 4 pm at Fitchett Funeral Home, 1821 Liberty Street. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 20th, 12:00 noon at Greater Refuge Church Ministries, 2210 Carter Street, Richmond, Virginia. A military burial will follow on Tuesday, November 21st at Albert G. Horton Cemetary, Suffolk, Virginia.
