Clarence Alonzo Blakey, known as "Boochie or Popcorn" to some. The fifth child born to the late William Blakey and Elnora Lowe Blakey on April 22, 1939 in Louisville, Kentucky.
He was educated in the Jefferson County Public School System. He accepted Christ at an early age. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Sadler's Materials after 22 years as a truck driver.
Clarence met and married the love of his life, Christine Arrington Blakey. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was preceded in death by one son, Keenan Arrington; two sisters, Argenia Ford and WillaBelle Sykes; two brothers, James William Blakey and Sheridan Lee Blakey.
Clarence leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 53 years, Christine Blakey of the home; one son, Christopher Arrington; one daughter, Phoebe Arrington of Norfolk; three grandsons, Damon Penn of Maryland, Christopher Arrington II of Virginia Beach, Jarrett Glen Arrington of Atlanta, Georgia; four sisters, Georgia Tyler of Louisville, Kentucky, Gracie Regina Dowe (Charles) of Indiana, Anna Crentsil (Yoofi) of Louisville, Jennie York of Louisville, and Alyce A. Anderson of Norfolk; three brothers, Louis Blakey (Janet) of Indiana, Chauncey Blakey (Beverly), Kevin Blakey (Judy) of Louisville, Kentucky; a best friend, Lavelle Stoner of Norfolk, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mr. Blakey will lie in state on Friday, July 14 from 5 pm to 7 pm at Fitchett Funeral Home, Liberty Street.
Homegoing Service will be Saturday, July 15 at 11 am at First Baptist Church, Lambert's Point - 1268 W. 38th Street, Norfolk, Virginia 23508.
