James L Ives

James L. Ives was born on April 28, 1933 in South Norfolk. He passed away on May 31, 2016. He was predeceased by his mother, Hazel Hamilton; his father, Andrew Ryland; one brother, Kenneth E. Ives; and one sister, Rosetta Turner.

He graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School. He was a member of the U.S. Army, retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a published author. James was a dedicated member of The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception for more than 50 years.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife of 56 years, Mary B. Ives; two sons, Millard K. Ives of Leesburg, FL and James L. Ives Jr. (Evelyn); one brother, Herbert Ryland (Jean); one aunt, Kattie Doles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephew, and a host of cousins and friends.

Mr. Ives will lie in state Tuesday, June 7 from 1 pm to 6 pm at Fitchett Funeral Home, Liberty Street.

A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 12 pm at The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception - 232 Chapel Street, Norfolk, Virginia 23504.

Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 3920 Airline Boulevard, Chesapeake, Virginia 23321.
