Halliar Spellman, better known as Harvey Spellman to all who knew him, age 65, died peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2018 in the comfort of his own home. He was born to the late Georgia Burrus and Harvey Spellman Sr. who were all long time natives of Chesapeake, Virginia.
He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Levi Spellman and Alvin Burrus; 3 sisters; Pearl Felton, Annie-Ruth Sykes and Kay-Frances Alexander.
Harvey is survived by his son David Griffin; his only sister Mary J. Owens, granddaughter Davina Griffin and great grandson Karter Griffin; a host of nieces and nephews and an abundance of family and friends.
In his early years, Harvey worked as a short shoreman for Norfolk International Terminal where he later retired. After retiring from NIT, he worked along side Clint, Scott and Roger in a landscaping business that served across the Hampton Roads area.
From the time of his birth on February 13, 1953 until the time of this death “Uncle Harvey” as many called him, was a force to be reckoned with. Earning his title as the “King of Dominos” in his early years caused many to challenge him. But until this very day, he went out the only way he could, and that was holding the title as “The Champ”.
His visitation will be on Friday from 2pm -4pm at Fitchett Funeral Home, 1821 Liberty Street. His homegoing celebration will be on Saturday, February 24th, 12 noon, at Fitchett Funeral Home, 1821 Liberty Street.
