Welcome to the memorial page for

Daisy Berry Capehart

November 27, 1929 ~ May 27, 2016 (age 86) 86 Years Old

On Friday, May 27, 2016 the Lord called our beloved Daisy home to Glory. She was born Daisy L. Berry on November 27, 1929 in South Mills, NC. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Herbert and Mary Jane Berry; her husband, Clinton Capehart; and her sister, Joyce B. Wilson.

Early in life, Daisy accepted Christ as her personal Savior and continued to seek God’s direction and guidance throughout her life. She was a soft-spoken woman who gave wise counsel and sound advice. A friend to everyone she met, Daisy lived out her Christian commitment to help others. Her trust and faith in God sustained her through her illness.

Daisy's early childhood education started in South Mills, NC in a one-room schoolhouse. To further her education, she had to move to Norfolk, VA where she lived with her aunt and uncle.  Daisy attended Booker T. Washington High School, then off to college at Norfolk State College. Following college, Daisy would make Philadelphia her home for over 30 years. She worked for the Department of Defense in Philadelphia prior to her transfer back to Norfolk, VA. There, she married and made her home, finishing her career at the Naval Air Rework Facility, Norfolk, VA after 41 years of exemplary governmental service.

Daisy was a true social butterfly and fashion icon who enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. Her bags were always packed and ready to GO. She had a talent for sewing, crocheting and knitting, and a gift for transforming the plain and simple into something beautiful.

She leaves to cherish her memories those who knew and loved her dearly: niece, Joyce L. Wilson; devoted cousin, Willis (Lil Buddy) Ferebee; life-long friend, Shirley Driver-Kinchen (Alonzo); a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Capehart will lie in state on Thursday, June 4 from 4 pm to 6 pm and Friday, June 3 from 9 am to 10:30 am at Fitchett Funeral Home, Liberty Street.
